The company  has a pool of experienced professionals in the power sub-sector in Kenya. Our key personnel have had rich and wide experience in all aspects of power sector operations in Kenya having worked for long periods in power utilities
(KPLC, KenGen) or involved in the development of the energy sector.

Experienced engineers, planners, surveyors and environmentalists on a project-by-project basis support these key personnel.

Eng Laban K. Kariuki
Eng L Kariuki is the Chairman of GSL and holds a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He is registered engineer with Kenya Engineers registration Board and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He has over 30 years experience in carrying out project studies, tariff studies, power system planning, strategic planning, project procurement and contract management. In the last fifteen years he has been involved in formulation of Energy Policy and undertaking of power sector reforms covering legal, regulatory and institutional frameworks and electricity tariff in Kenya. He has also been involved in regional studies on power interconnections and promotion of power trade within the region. He was the Regional Policy Consultant on Electricity Policy for Southern Sudan and the work also covered drafting technical and commercial policies, instructions for distribution utility operations. Before 2002 Eng Kariuki participated/coordinated feasibility studies undertaken by KPLC and KenGen for thermal, geothermal and hydro power developments. He was Client project engineer working with international consultants during implementation of the most of the power projects in Kenya.
Eng Mwangi I. Weru
Eng. Weru holds a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He is registered engineer with Kenya Engineers registration Board and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He has more than 30 years experience in design, operation and maintenance of power system protection, control and metering systems, project management, design, installation and supervision of industrial plants. Eng Weru was responsible for design, testing and commissioning of protection and control schemes including instrumentation for power stations, transmission and distribution lines and substations in Kenyan power system. He has wide experience in project management gained in implementation of food and beverage processing plants in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Eng Victor Ongewe
Eng. Ongewe is an electrical Engineer and holds a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He is registered engineer with Kenya Engineers registration Board and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He has over 35 years experience in design and commissioning of transmission lines, substations, distribution networks and generating plant, in voltage range from distribution up to 220kV. He has wide experience in construction supervision gained over ten years working as consultant after leaving KPLC. Some of his expertise is in system protection Schemes, Controls and instrumentation for substations, overhead lines and generating plant. He was involved in development of the Kenya grid code by ERB.

Mr Cyrus Njungu
Cyrus is an electrical Engineer, has over 25 years experience in design, construction supervision, operation and maintenance of 132kV transmission, 66kV and 33kV sub-transmission and 11kV distribution lines and respective substations. Early this year he carried out a brief survey of distribution network for Rumbek for a private investor and prepared material and cost estimates for the establishment of a distribution network in the town.
Eng. Maina Samuel
Eng. Maina holds a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He is Registered Engineer with Kenya Engineers registration Board and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He has more than 25 years experience in implementation, operation and maintenance of thermal power plants including gas turbines, steam, diesel and geothermal plants.

Mr Zacchaeus Muna

Zack is a geothermal Scientist with wide experience in geothermal scientific work in Kenya. He coordinated scientific and reservoir engineering operations (geology, geophysics, geochemistry, reservoir engineering, environment, library, cartography and survey) in Olkaria geothermal project. He has been involved in designing and implementation of drilling exploration and appraisal programmes as well as participating in identification of drill sites for exploration, appraisal, production and replacement wells and in critiquing designs for geothermal plants in line with the envisaged discharge fluid chemical and thermodynamics characteristics

Mr W Ombusso

Willis, a geophysicist, is an experienced geothermal reservoir engineer having been engaged in geothermal reservoir assessment in Kenya, Indonesia and United States.
Mr. John Kimotho
Mr Kimotho graduated with Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1973 followed by technical training courses locally and overseas on power plant erection, operation and maintenance. He attended Kamburu turbine runner balancing at Litostroj Factory (Slovenia) and follow up of design of generator thrust bearing oil coolers at Koncar in Croatia in 2003, and also hydro power development training by SwedPower in Sweden (1986). He has wide exposure in Design, manufacture, installation and commissioning as well as extensive experience in operation and maintenance of generating plant and accessories of diesel power plants and mini hydro plants in Kenya while working at Kenya’s isolated diesel power plants and at mini hydro stations.
Prof Francis Muthuuri
Prof Francis Muthuuri is an environmental Lead expert, registered by Kenyan National Environmental Management Authority. He has performed numerous environmental assessments and audits on projects funded by bilateral and multi-lateral donor agencies including World Bank and European Union. These include preparing Environmental Project Report for Olkaria IV and Olkaria I developments. He is well versed with Kenyan, World Bank, EU and other financier’s environmental guidelines for projects.
Mr Stephen Murimi
Mr Murimi has over 3 years experience in installation of computer programs, maintenance and administration of computer systems and networks. He recently graduated with a B Sc in Information Technology and Communication. He has relevant expertise with essential computer programs like MS Office, Microsoft Project, antivirus programs, among others. Mr Murimi has also been a key resource in offering daily office logistical support to GSL Staff and its Clients as well.
Mr Joe Njenga
Mr. Joe Njenga has wide experience in management of IT Projects and also in disaster recovery management. He has attended financial and project management courses locally and abroad. He has over 34 years of experience in the delivery of key and strategic IT projects both as a systems support resource and as a services/project manager.
Joe has been involved in the rollout of major IT projects for Banks in Kenya, among other IT projects. He is also involved in Business Continuity development in Kenya.
Mr Isaiah Gitau
Mr Gitau is a financial expert advising on taxation matters for over 7 years. He also deals with project logistics
